On August 24, the CILFA students took the bus to Menthon-Saint-Bernard, a charming little village on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy. Once they arrived, after a short walk through the village and then through the forest, they had the opportunity to visit the Château de Menthon and its garden, and to admire the magnificent view of the lake from the terrace.

The Castle of Menthon
Built atop a rock in the 12th century, this former fortified castle has been transformed over the course of its history into a stately, romantic-looking residence that even inspired Walt Disney—who was visiting the region at the time—to create Sleeping Beauty’s castle!
Today, it is a private residence that offers tours from early May through late September and provides a glimpse into what life was like for its inhabitants back then. The owners even organize costumed, dramatized guided tours on weekends!
