DELF/DALF: What are they?
The DELF and DALF are official diplomas issued by the Ministry of National Education to certify proficiency in French as a foreign language (FLE).
They cover 6 levels of the CEFR, from A1 to C2, and assess 4 skills:
Listening Comprehension
Speaking
Reading Comprehension
Writing
DELF : A1 – A2 – B1 – B2
DALF : C1 – C2
What is the DELF for?
DELF A2 – Multi-year Residence Permit
The DELF A2 is the certificate attesting to the level of proficiency in French that may be required to obtain certain multi-year residence permits, in accordance with current regulations.
DELF B1 – Resident ID card
The DELF B1 is the certificate attesting to the level of proficiency in French required to obtain a 10-year residence permit, in accordance with current legislation (Law of January 26, 2024).
DELF B2 – French Citizenship
The DELF B2 is the certificate attesting to the level of proficiency in French required for those applicants seeking French citizenship, in accordance with the legislation currently in force (law of January 26, 2024).
