DELF C1

Discovery

The DALF C1 (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) is an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of Education which certifies an advanced level of proficiency in French, corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). DALF C1 holders are able to express themselves fluently, spontaneously, and in a structured manner, even on complex subjects, and can use French with a high degree of autonomy in personal, academic, or professional contexts.

Skills assessed

The DALF C1 assesses the following four language skills:

Listening comprehension

The test consists of answering comprehension questions based on various recordings:

  • A long document (interview, lecture, conference, etc.) lasting approximately 8 minutes (listened to twice)
  • Plusieurs courts extraits radiophoniques (informations, sondages, annonces…) (écoutés une fois)
  • Maximum document length: 10 min

Reading comprehension

The test covers texts expressing ideas (literary or journalistic) of approximately 1,500 to 2,000 words.

Writing

The test consists of two parts:

  • A summary based on several written documents (approximately 1,000 words in total)
  • An argumentative essay developing a clear position on the given topic.
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes     Note on: 25

Speaking

The oral exam consists of a structured presentation based on a documentary file, followed by a discussion with the examiners.
