The spring session has just begun at CILFA. A new group is participating in the educational activities. The somewhat unpredictable weather didn’t stop a few students from visiting the city of Annecy last Wednesday.
Accompanied by their teacher Frédéric, the students walked across the Pâquier to admire the mountains surrounding Annecy. The light kept changing, and the lake water was turquoise in places. The students had a good opportunity to practice French as a foreign language by talking with Frédéric. They asked him many questions about the city and things to do in Annecy and the surrounding area. The group then headed to the old town and walked up to the castle. The students were surprised to learn that the red roof tiles in the historic districts were shaped like fish scales (the trout is the symbol of the city of Annecy).
The tour ended at a café-restaurant in the city center called “Les Palettes.” This cozy spot also has a clothing store. https://www.lespalettes.fr/
At this café, the students enjoyed a fun time taking a quiz about the city of Annecy.
Annecy hosts many events throughout the year. In the spring, for example, there will be the Lake Annecy Marathon and Half Marathon (Sunday, April 22). Then, on May 20 and 21, a major volleyball tournament will take place. Another sporting event is the Maxi Race (a trail run in the mountains surrounding the lake) from May 25 to 27. That same weekend, the Talloires Book Festival will take place. It’s a literary event where renowned authors come to meet their readers.
Finally, from Monday, June 11, through Saturday, June 16, 2018, the International Animation Film Festival will take place—an event that is a highlight of life in Annecy every year. CILFA students will attend screenings of short films as part of an activity organized that week.
