When you come from another country, life in France can sometimes be full of surprises! Jessica and Saki, two students from group B1.2, share their impressions with you!
Hello, my name is Saki. I’m Japanese. I’m staying with a host family and I’ve noticed that the French live differently from us Japanese. First of all, I get the impression that they like to talk. When I was in Japan, whilst I was having a meal, I didn’t talk to my family because we were watching the telly. In Japan, that’s a very normal situation, whereas in France, people talk during the meal and afterwards too. I think it’s brilliant that the French live like that because everyone seems to be enjoying life.
I’ve also noticed that, unlike the Japanese, they aren’t glued to their phones. Thanks to them, I’ve realised that going for a walk is actually quite pleasant.

Before I arrived in France, I lived in Taiwan, an island with a much smaller land area than France. For me, life in France is an adventure full of unexpected twists and turns. In a country where people speak a completely different language, it’s difficult both to communicate with others and to sort out any problems that might arise when you don’t speak the language well. If you have a problem with any purchase, don’t hesitate to find someone who can help you and to stand up for your rights. Although the process may take a while, if you give it a go, there’s always a chance of a positive outcome. Despite these difficulties, you can really enjoy life by taking in the scenery all over France.
