Snowshoe Hike for CILFA Students

Last month, four CILFA students, accompanied by their teacher, went up to the Semnoz ski resort for a snowshoeing outing.

Le Semnoz, a ski resort 17 km from Annecy!

Every winter, as part of its educational activities, CILFA organizes a field trip to the Semnoz ski resort, located just a stone’s throw from Annecy.

So, after a 30-minute bus ride through the Semnoz Forest, we arrived at the Nordic chalet to rent snowshoes. Some of the students weren’t used to the mountains, so it was a special experience for them. The small group was very international: the students came from Taiwan, South Africa, and Syria! This diversity is characteristic of CILFA students.

After putting on our snowshoes, we headed into the forest. It was mild out, and the sun was really shining. A storm of blue skies! We had our traditional snowball fight, but it stayed within reasonable limits this time.

At the summit of Semnoz, we met a friendly group of French people who took a photo of us.

The event wrapped up with a very enjoyable get-together on the resort’s terrace, where some enjoyed a glass of mulled wine. The students, of course, took the opportunity to practice French as a foreign language!

Everyone loved this mountain experience, and it even made some of them want to come back and try other winter sports available here: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, and sledding. You can even sleep in igloos at Semnoz: https://www.alpes-bivouac.com/produits/igloo/
